The legal term in Texas is called “conservatorship,” but most people know it as child custody and visitation. However you refer to it, this legal arrangement will determine the extent and nature of your relationship with your child.
In most cases, this will mean a “joint managing conservatorship” in which both parents share important decisions concerning matters such as the child’s medical care, education and religious upbringing. One parent is designated as the “primary conservator,” with whom the child lives, while the other is granted parenting time. Other arrangements are possible however.
